Our Stereo Artists are challenged to create the most immersive and watchable stereo shots for our newest stories in production now and also to recreate our classic titles for 3D re-release. Our ideal candidate has great sense of cinematography and has a passion for visual storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with Stereo Supervisor, Layout Supervisor, Director of Look and Lighting and directors to create immersive and comfortable 3D images in support of the story
  • Responsible for creation, delivery, and notes on 3D end-to-end
  • Stereo Layout Duties – Configure the stereoscopic parameters of CG animatic shots using our custom stereo camera rig to achieve the stereoscopic supervisor’s creative goals for each shot.
  • Stereo Layout Finaling Duties – Adapt the stereoscopic parameters to account for final animated performances and camera changes.  Create test renders to validate stereo setups.
  • Stereo Final Color Duties – Correct stereo artifacts introduced in the lighting and compositing of shots.  Make creative adjustments to final images to enhance for the stereoscopic version of the film.
  • Use compositing based depth sculpting techniques to add dimension to 2D elements such as matte paintings and enhance or modify the depth of 3D elements.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Art, Film, Illustration, Computer Graphics, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience desired
  • Exceptional artistic and technical skills
  • Previous production experience on Stereoscopic feature films; Stereoscopic animated film experience preferred
  • Experience working in collaborative environments and taking direction
  • Solid understanding of the Stereoscopic principles
  • Knowledge of rendering and compositing
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Solid understanding of Maya and Nuke
  • Comfort with Linux environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Layout a plus
  • Experience in Lighting a plus

  • Strong understanding of anatomy, perspective, and composition
  • Ability to solve problems of weight, balance, and movement
  • Proficiency with the principles of animation and the dynamics of animals and human figures in action
  • Work should emphasize storytelling and the ability to define character personality along with fluid/organic movement

Our Lighters are an integral part of the storytelling process, using their keen eye to manipulate color and light to emphasize shifts of mood both subtle and dynamic. Responsibilities

Lighters are responsible for lighting and rendering shots and compositing together the resulting character and environment renders into a final frame until it meets the vision of the Director, Art Director, Director of Look & Lighting, and Lighting Supervisors.

Lighters are expected to present shots in a dailies environment, effectively communicate issues regarding their shots, and deliver top notch work within production deadlines.

Job Requirements

  • BA in Art, Digital Media, Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of color, contrast, and lighting design
  • Notable production experience with 3D lighting and compositing
  • A strong visual sense and the ability to distinguish subtle differences that affect the matching of elements created in multiple mediums
  • Working knowledge of a node-based compositing system (i.e. Shake or Nuke) required
  • Renderman or similar experience required
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of Unix and/or Linux
  • Strong problem solving skills and a good eye required
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, taking direction from the Director, Art Director, Director of Look & Lighting, and Lighting Sups

Whether giving nature a style makeover or creating hyperrealism, the Disney Effects team pushes the envelope of what is possible. Challenging the status quo, both technically and artistically, our goal is to create the unexpected and to invoke an emotional impact that supports the story’s creative vision.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and support a variety of high-quality photorealistic and stylized visual effects
  • Develop all effects from conception through completion within production deadlines in a pipeline-consumable form
  • Work closely with the Lighting Department to achieve desired look and integration of rendered effects. Provide Lighting with a composite network defining element context and usage
  • Bring authorship, emotional impact, and art direction to various effects through a creative, artistic vision while meeting the director’s vision in an efficient manner
  • Work with the Effects Supervisor to design technical approaches and establish artistic goals for projects or sequences
  • Participate as a proactive team member to determine and share various design and technical solutions
  • Challenge the status quo for effects by developing innovative tools and/or techniques

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in CG visual effects production for animation, live-action film, or television
  • Advanced procedural and dynamic simulation experience with high-end 3D software: “Houdini” preferred; “Maya” a plus, or equivalent package; Nuke or equivalent compositing tools; and experience with Renderman a plus
  • Proficiency with fluid simulations, rigid simulations, particle systems, and FX pipeline authorship using procedural animation techniques
  • Linux and scripting ability in Python preferred; shader and C++ skills also applicable
  • Strong understanding of animation fundamentals, including timing and appeal.
  • Good “eye” toward light, color, design, and composition. Observation skills of natural phenomena, comprehension of physics, and ability to implement
  • Flexible problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality
  • Very open to direction
  • Participate in and embrace a culture of continual innovation and change
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to clearly convey both artistic and technical concepts and processes
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative workspace, work well alone or within a team, as well as with other departments
