Job Description
We are looking for an artist with a diverse set of design skills to work in a fast paced, television production environment. The ideal candidate will be able to complete architectural elevation drawings and turnarounds from approved designs, generate rough concepts to explore new designs, as well as explore color palette ideas. They will need to be able to design within the style of the show as well as work digitally on a Cintiq and various software programs, including, but not limited to Photoshop and Illustrator. They should be organized and able to manage a variety of tasks within the given schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Resolve design problems with creative supervisors.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Communicate progress of work to appropriate production staff.
  • Ensure all artwork is properly backed up and stored appropriately.
  • Ensure all shipping materials are prepared and ready on time.
  • Work with partner studios.
Required Skills
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in style of show.
  • Strong design and construction/mechanical skills.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn applicable design software and hardware.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Must be organized and able to work within a schedule.

Key Activities:

  • Lecture and teach in a classroom setting on a daily basis.
  • Teach fundamentals and advanced topics in character animation using Maya.
  • Provide creative direction and criticism to students on assignments. This can include character animation research and animation blocking, and animation polish.
  • Teach problem solving – students need to constantly strive via research to optimize, fix and enhance an effective animation production pipeline.
  • Work closely with art faculty to develop an ongoing and constantly improving curriculum that reflects industry trends.
  • Organize and manage time efficiently for multiple classes.
  • Grade, critique and input assignment data on a weekly basis.
  • Act in the capacity of an academic advisor for students.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Preferred:
    • MFA degree in art or media related field.
    • Teaching experience and/or demonstrated training experience.
    • Extensive professional experience in art, not necessarily limited to computer/video games or animation.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in art or media related field.
    • Relevant industry experience is desirable.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 4 years experience animating characters in the role of Animator whether for games or cinematic.
  • Proficient in animating using Maya.
  • A Reel/Portfolio showing animation, and 2d art skills.

The Production Coordinator is responsible for the assignment and tracking of tasks for assigned area of responsibility. Facilitates the movement of shots between teams, coordinates daily reviews, and communicates status updates to ensure the delivery of shots on schedule. Provides administrative support to the production management team and supervisors.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, tracks progress of tasks for assigned artists or sequences in the production tracking system.
  •      Maintains production tracking system with revisions, omits, and shot length changes; notifies the affected crew as needed.
  • Partners with other production personnel to ensure shots are scheduled and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Follows up with Artist Leads on a daily basis to ensure task deliveries remain on schedule; communicates any schedule changes to appropriate Artist Leads, Supervisors and Production team as needed.
  • Coordinates all client deliveries (outgoing and incoming), both physical deliveries and digital deliveries, with I/O Coordinator and maintains log of all deliveries.
  • Responsible for multiple dailies sessions each day, as well as client reviews.
  • Taking clear and accurate notes in all dailies and review sessions, and disseminating notes to all necessary parties and within production software.
  • Generates and maintains production reports; including nightly production updates for assigned projects.
  • Generally providing overall production support to the production management team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years proven production experience in established VFX or post production facility.
  • Demonstrable experience in highly technical, dynamic departments is a must.
  • Experience with heavy schedule management in a very time sensitive atmosphere.
  • Must be diligent, resourceful, meticulous and able to thrive under pressure.
  • Thorough understanding of CG/VFX production pipelines, software packages and post-production is essential.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail coupled with exceptional people skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Strong project management skills and a sensitivity towards deadline related deliveries.
  • Must be able to handle multiple changing priorities in a dynamic environment and understand how this impacts departmental schedules.
  • Able to communicate effectively across multiple teams with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills are required; with particular emphasis on Production Tracking Software and Asset Management, Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, Office, and standard PC applications.
  • Knowledge of Nuke is very helpful
  • Knowledge and understanding of stereoscopic production and 2D/3D conversion not required but a plus.

Variety is reporting that DreamWorks Animation Will Stay in Glendale as a great sigh of relief can be heard from their campus.

From their article:

Comcast leaders Brian Roberts and Steve Burke have offered reassurances to DreamWorks Animation staffers that they plan to keep making movies at the DreamWorks’ Glendale headquarters.

The duo made the promises in a Tuesday morning meeting with over 1,000 staffers in Glendale, five days after Comcast announced it was buying the animation company for $3.8 billion.

“This came together really fast, but has been in our hearts for a long time,” Comcast CEO Roberts said following opening remarks by DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg. “We will absolutely continue to make animated films here. Today for me, Jeffrey, it’s the awesome responsibly of trying to find a way to take your dream and try to carry on your legacy and celebrate it in a way that will make you proud.”

Looking for: Junior Animators for a 26×11 Toon Boom cut-out animated series

Amsterdam-based Submarine is looking for junior animators to work on a 26×11 animated series. The look of the series can be best described as an illustration-like 2D style, with rich textures and soft pencil lines, with a rig-based cut-out animation technique. The series’ main characters are little girls, childlike and relatively realistic – elements that should be communicated in the characters’ movements and emotions.

Requirements

  • Experience in 2D character animation
  • Experience with cut-out animation is a strong asset
  • Experience with animating in Harmony is a strong asset
  • Experience working on a big, fast-paced production is a strong asset
  • English and/or Dutch speaking skills

Team

You’ll work on one episode at a time in a small team, consisting of one animation supervisor, two senior animators and two or three junior animators.

Location

Work takes place exclusively on location: Submarine studios in Amsterdam. We can help with finding accommodation were you to relocate to Amsterdam for this production.

Timeframe

Full-time. Looking for junior animators from mid July 2016 until early 2017.
