Barana Cut Out Biped Autorig

Hot on the heels of our post last week about a 3D Studio Max cut out plugin, here’s another one specifically for Autodesk Maya.

Barana is available on the Autodesk Exchange

Steps to create a cutout rig…
1. Create Full Rig
2. Auto Skin
3. Full Mirroring
4.Capable of Skin more than one cloth and switch between them (Body,Arms,Legs,Shoes,Foots)
5.Create And Add Hair Dynamic to Rig.
6.Add other tools for character.

3DCutout

I’ve just become aware of a plugin for 3D Studio Max called 3DCutout which you use in conjunction with Photoshop (or any other drawing program I would think) which essentially lets you animate Flash or Harmony type cut out animation using a custom interface in 3D Studio Max. You can rig characters, create and library assets and of course use the 3d camera. It looks REALLY cool! Check out the clip above!

What is your name and your current occupation?
I’m Diana David and I’m currently working as an Artist in a games company.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I worked a couple of times as a supporting actor/extra in a short film by Solveig Nordlund  and for a Portuguese tv series. I enjoyed very much to do that because I could see how the filming production works.

What are some of your favourite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’m only 23, so I don’t have a lot of professional projects to be proud of… I guess ..so far I’m proud of everything!!!  I’m very proud of having worked on the Animated TV Series called Nutri Ventures which having been sold to 19 different countries, so far. But I’m also proud of have been working on the 2 newest Frontier’s games!

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Portugal and I always loved to draw. Because my parents always encouraged me and support my passion I was able to study fine arts in one of the most well known universities in my country. I learn a lot about art, on how to have a critical thinking and being original and open minded. In addition, Continue reading

“10 Things No Animator Wants to Hear”

animcolor_largeRenderDigimania has a good article about the “10 Things No Animator Wants to Hear”

“I don’t have any concept art or storyboards yet, but a story outline will do, right?”
No, it won’t. You wouldn’t ask a voice actor to do the gig without a script, so why ask somebody whose job it is to bring the images to life to do so without any bloody reference materials? We will just end up blindly firing out ideas, only to watch each one shot down, as we slowly and painfully try to find out what the hell you were actually looking for in the first place. Animators can do many things, but mind-reading isn’t one of them.
