SUMMARY:

  • Nickelodeon Animation Studio is looking for a Storyboard Artist for its new TV movie, Lucky. This position will last 3 or 4 months. MUST HAVE A KNACK FOR COMEDY. PREFERABLY AN ARTIST WITH EXPERIENCE ON BOARD-DRIVEN PROJECTS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with creative supervisors to discuss objectives of storyboard; what is desired or to be achieved.
  • Create storyboards by implementing storytelling objectives.
  • Follow instructions of creative supervisors.
  • Address any problems with creative supervisors; ask necessary questions.
  • Communicate progress of work to creative supervisors and to appropriate production staff.
  • Ensure quality and style of show is consistently achieved in storyboard work.
  • Follow proper document management requirements (i.e., file naming and storage) according to the production’s guidelines.
  • Meet all deadlines as determined by Line Producer or Production Manager.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings and pitches as needed.
  • Maybe be required to pitch Storyboards.
  • Ensure all storyboard notes are added.

Basic Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in style of show.
  • Strong staging and composition skills.
  • Understanding of subtext in character performance. Portfolio samples must demonstrate that all characters in a sequence do not behave the same. They are unique. Think about which character in a scene is dominant, which is submissive. What are the undercurrents? Whose scene is it?
  • Strong drawing and mechanical skills.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn applicable design software (Photoshop, Storyboard Pro) and hardware (Wacom Cintiq monitor and/or tablet).
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask a plus.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant drawing experience necessary.
  • BA/BS preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year storyboard experience and/or training on a similar show; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Description
Paints backgrounds, layouts and any other background-related art that the production may require, ensuring style and quality of show are met.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with creative supervisor(s) to ensure color needs of show are fulfilled.
  • Follow instructions of supervisor.
  • Complete all color work within assigned deadlines.
  • Resolve color problems with creative supervisors.
  • Communicate progress of work to appropriate production staff.
  • Ensure all artwork is properly backed up and stored appropriately.
  • Review storyboard for background key color callouts.
  • Comfortable working on a Cyntiq and must be able to work digitally.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Fulfill other color projects, including but not limited to color lead sheets, color script and/or color pass on storyboards.
Required Skills

Job Description
We are looking for an artist with a diverse set of design skills to work in a fast paced, television production environment. The ideal candidate will be able to complete architectural elevation drawings and turnarounds from approved designs, generate rough concepts to explore new designs, as well as explore color palette ideas. They will need to be able to design within the style of the show as well as work digitally on a Cintiq and various software programs, including, but not limited to Photoshop and Illustrator. They should be organized and able to manage a variety of tasks within the given schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Activities:

  • Lecture and teach in a classroom setting on a daily basis.
  • Teach fundamentals and advanced topics in character animation using Maya.
  • Provide creative direction and criticism to students on assignments. This can include character animation research and animation blocking, and animation polish.
  • Teach problem solving – students need to constantly strive via research to optimize, fix and enhance an effective animation production pipeline.
  • Work closely with art faculty to develop an ongoing and constantly improving curriculum that reflects industry trends.
  • Organize and manage time efficiently for multiple classes.
  • Grade, critique and input assignment data on a weekly basis.
  • Act in the capacity of an academic advisor for students.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Preferred:
    • MFA degree in art or media related field.
    • Teaching experience and/or demonstrated training experience.
    • Extensive professional experience in art, not necessarily limited to computer/video games or animation.
    • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in art or media related field.
    • Relevant industry experience is desirable.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 4 years experience animating characters in the role of Animator whether for games or cinematic.
  • Proficient in animating using Maya.
  • A Reel/Portfolio showing animation, and 2d art skills.

The look of the series can be best described as an illustration-like 2D style, with rich textures and soft pencil lines, with a rig-based cut-out animation technique. The series’ main characters are little girls, childlike and relatively realistic – elements that should be communicated in the characters’ movements and emotions.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of 2D character animation
  • Experience with cut-out animation is a strong asset
  • Experience with animating in Harmony is a strong asset
  • Ability to work with strict deadlines and a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • English and/or Dutch speaking skills

Team

You’ll work on one episode at a time in a small team, consisting of one animation supervisor, two senior animators and two or three junior animators.

Location

Work takes place exclusively on location: Submarine studios in Amsterdam. We can help with finding accommodation were you to relocate to Amsterdam for this production.

Timeframe

Full-time. Looking for supervising/senior animators from early May 2016 until early 2017.
