What is your name and your current occupation?
JOHN HARDMAN, Director of Development and Production, Saban Brands LLC.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a maintenance man for a function hall.  I spent every afternoon cleaning cigarette butts out of urinals and mopping up wedding guests’ vomit.  I worked in a car wash for one summer and had numerous close calls whenever I had to park a car with a stick shift.  I also have the typical Hollywood story of working for a producer who threw the telephone across the room at me when she got mad.  Worst of all, she got mad a lot.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
So many…. Rugrats, Rocket Power, Jackie Chan Adventures, Xiaolin Showdown, Mr. Men, Power Rangers.
How did you become interested in animation?

I’ve been a huge fan of animation since I was a kid (no surprise!).  What I found most exciting was Continue reading

What is your name and your current occupation?
Kenard Pak Visual Development Artist at PDI Dreamworks.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Nothing too crazy. I’ve flipped burgers, cleaned dishes + bathrooms, got yelled at for bad video rentals.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’m very proud of “Madagascar 3”. We were an excellent, inspiring, professional + fun art team. This doesn’t happen very often,
and I consider myself very fortunate to have been a part of it. The film that started my career, “Prince of Egypt”, is also very memorable.  Not only did I get my start on such a mammoth project, but I learned so much from the legendary artists that had designed it.  At Disney Feature I had a great time on their pre-production projects, and I also have some interesting memories working  with the director Monkmus on his “Topside Rag” shorts.

How did you become interested in animation?
Like many kids, I grew up enjoying cartoons like Merry Melodies and Woody Woodpecker. Unlike most kids, this fascination eventually became Continue reading

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
My best memory of work would be pizza delivering in France, I was doing this job at the same time of my animation studies.  It s bloody dangerous but really fun for a small period. As you get a low salary, you put all your efforts on getting a maximum amount of tips from the client ;p

What are some of your favourite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
As I am a total fan on Marvel films, I was really proud to work on the last Xmen- First Class, and it was also my first film project.  Another favourite project would be Prometheus , it was a really good experience! ( I haven’t seen it yet but I usually love Ridley Scott movies )

How did you become interested in animation?
When I was really young, when I saw for the first time Jurassic Park and Terminator 2. From that moment, my dream was to work in visual effects, Then I saw Continue reading

Annecy: DreamWorks Animation Screens First Footage of ‘Boss Baby’

Variety has an article about Tom McGrath’s upcoming animated comedy, Boss Baby which stars Alec Baldwin and is set for release next March.

A riled up audience at the Annecy International Animation Festival in the French Alps was the first in the world to see footage of Boss Baby, the upcoming DreamWorks Animation comedy from Madagascar and Megamind director Tom McGrath, who spoke for more than an hour about his latest creation.

With Alec Baldwin voicing the titular bigwig in diapers, and Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow playing the parents, Boss Baby is told through the eyes of a 7-year-old boy whose life is turned upside-down by the arrival of a new brother. The catch is that the little cutie can talk and do plenty of other things, like carry a briefcase and order everyone else around. Eventually, the two bros team up to take on the evil Puppy Co., which is filling the world with baby dogs and taking the spotlight away from humans.

Slated for domestic release by 20th Century Fox in March 2017, Boss Baby looks to be another case of DreamWorks and McGrath joining forces for what could be a clever and meaningful cartoon with broad appeal.

What is your name and your current occupation?

My name is Andrew Hickinbottom, and i am a freelance character modeler for illustration and animation.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Not sure on the ‘crazy’ side of things, but my first ever job was working in my dad’s factory as a general handyman doing various laborious jobs like sweeping, painting and grass cutting, before moving on to being a machine operator and packer there. I once worked in a videogames shop as well. Since i got my first job doing what i love, i cant see myself doing anything else – i’d whine too much!
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I modeled all but 2 of the characters in an advert for the International Olympic Committee at Nexus productions in London. Really nicely stylised characters – I was really pleased how that job came out. Also, I was the lead character modeler on the 3D sections of a 2D / 3D cartoon series called ‘friends and heroes’ – i made over a hundred characters during the series production run of 2 years. The art director i worked with was an really inspirational guy who worked with Disney, and he taught me a lot about character design, appeal and composition. This job helped me find my style which i progressed it to what it is today. Im proud of all of my personal projects too, but that’s because they are labours of love – i can take as long as i want on them, without deadlines, client feedback or budgets complicating things. Im especially proud of the limited figure run i had made from one of my personal pieces (Trixie) and are now selling via my website.
