DreamWorks Animation Hires Exec From Paramount As New Head Of Development

Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Howell, who was Paramount’s Head of Comedy for the past two-and-a-half years, has joined DreamWorks Animation as the company’s new Head of Development. She is taking over for Gregg Taylor who began producing duties last August on DreamWorks’ Larrikins, the animated musical film. Like Taylor (who had the gig before her), Howell will report to Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria.

Starburns Industries-Anomalisa trailer

Starburns Industries (Ricky and Morty) has a Stop Motion feature film due out this year called Anomilisa and while I can’t really tell much of what the film is about, I like the style. I particularly like that they didn’t bother to cover up the seams of the characters faces. What do you think?

Michael Stone, husband, father and respected author of “How May I Help You Help Them?” is a man crippled by the mundanity of his life. On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he’s scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, he checks into the Fregoli Hotel. There, he is amazed to discover a possible escape from his desperation in the form of an unassuming Akron baked goods sales rep, Lisa, who may or may not be the love of his life. A beautifully tender and absurdly humorous dreamscape, from the brilliant minds of Charlie Kaufman (SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK) and Duke Johnson (“Community” episode, Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas), this stop-motion animation wonder features the vocal cast of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan and David Thewlis and a stirring strings-based score by Carter Burwell.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Some of the crazy Jobs I had before was during my school years, I worked as an assistant to the animation department head and was able to meet all these great people and went to awesome trips to Pixar DreamWorks and many more.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
There are many I am actually proud of being a part of but one of the recent one was Rainbow Brite 2014. I was able to do character designs Animate and work with a number of great folks. Another fun project was the Anchor Man app game for Animax/Paramount, Along with the NBC Community Animated shorts!

Lyndon Ruddy. I’m a story artist currently working at Paramount Animation in Hollywood.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
 Nothing too crazy, mostly art related jobs, although I did work at an industrial laundry mat when I was 15. The ones with the giant washers and dryers. If I fell in, that’d be it.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I loved storyboarding on Gnomeo and Juliet, The Legend of Tembo ( the project was shelved) Tinkbell and Planes Franchie movies.  The Pramount project I’m currently storyboarding on is going to blow people away. Its going to be really good.
