What is your name and your current occupation?
Darnell Johnson I am an Illustrator and Visual Development Artist, who enjoys telling stories with color and light.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I didn’t really have any crazy jobs. Starting in high school I started my own t-shirt airbrush business. I designed business cards, flyers, logos, and painted portraits.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I would have to say the freelance Marvel gig I worked on pencils for “Dog Pool Vs Void Mutt” in “DeadPool Family”. It was my first big professional job. Still fairly new in my career so I’m sure there will be other projects that I’m proud of in the future.

How did you become interested in animation?
I’ve always love to draw since I was little creating my own comics at home. It was my elementary school art teacher Mrs. C who told me one day to draw my own cartoon characters. None of them.  Loved the places and people I’ve worked with, but when it comes to my work I always feel like I could do better.

What is your name and your current occupation?
Big Jim Miller – Storyboard Supervisor on ‘My Little Pony’ currently airing on the Hub network in the US, and Treehouse in Canada.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I haven’t had any real ‘crazy’ jobs, but I worked in retail, made signs and awnings, and one summer, painting gas meters.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I haven’t worked on too many different projects, but I am proud of the board work I did on ‘Ed, Edd n’ Eddy.’ I learned so much more on the job than I did in film school, and it really helped to define me as an artist.

How did you become interested in animation?
I was a big fan of all the Warner Bros and MGM shorts that were repackaged for Saturday mornings when I was a kid. The humour and style of storytelling definitely had an influence on me. Those cartoons led to all the toy brand series of the 80’s which led to buying the comics of those series, then buying all sorts of comics! It was my love of comic books that Continue reading

What would you say has been your primary job in animation?
Background painter and color stylist. I’m currently remote freelancing for Warner Bros. on Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. and Looney Tunes Show. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and used to work at Wild Brain before they relocated to LA.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a bill collector for the credit card division of a big, unpopular bank in the early 90s. It was all done on an automatic dialer, the account would pop up on your screen and you’d have to quickly process what their situation was and try to get them to pay their bills. Sometimes it was depressing, sometimes it was fascinating and entertaining. People will tell you anything when they owe money. Mostly I just left a lot of messages and sketched in my book.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated is at the top of my list right now. It’s the coolest show I’ve gotten to work on, I’m a genuine fan.

What is your name and occupation?

What have been some of the crazier jobs you’ve had before getting into animation?
I think I’ve had a more interesting and varied past than most artists in the field, having been a professional opera singer, a teacher of ancient history and a personal trainer.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Mostly all of the shows have found a personal niche in me. However, if I had to choose one it would be Clifford Puppy Days. It was educational and entertaining at the same time. Plus I would draw dogs frolicking and playing all day and always came home in a great mood.

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Ted Wilson and I am the co-creator and co-writer of the internet cartoon Gundarr. My partner Corey McDaniel and I also do the voice acting and music. Up until Season 3 (which starts airing on Mondomedia’s Youtube channel on July 17. Plugs ahoy!) we did all the animation as well.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
 From door to door sales to working in a lumber mill in Northern Ontario I have run the gamut of day jobs. I’ve also worked as a cook, picked rocks on oilfield reclamation sites and did a couple weeks of telemarketing when I was really up against the wall! None of them were very stimulating, but all those crappy jobs pushed me towards doing what I really love for a living: Animation!

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
 The project I’m most proud of would have to be my current project, Gundarr. It started as something my friends and I did for fun one night, and somehow turned into a fulltime gig! My time as prop designer on My Little Pony was also a lot of fun. While the show itself isn’t what I would normally watch on my own, the team I worked with was super talented and funny, so I enjoyed myself everyday.
