What is your name and your current occupation?
Lucky De, Freelance 2d Flash Animator for web/TV .

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Oh I dont know… Construction worker in Toronto in December was fun, Bartender at a Navy bar where you see buff guys singing pre school songs at midnight that was also fun… Or pushing trolleys at the supermarket, i used to get 2 at a time, one for each leg and slide down the hill, that was totally fun. Man really most of the crappy jobs were fun as long as I didn’t take them seriously!

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Oh a bunch, I loved working with Stephen Brooks on the Ghostbusting Wallstreet short, that was really great. When I was interning at Flux at a young age we did a show which took 4 weeks to make usually in 2, because I was so fast at flash, I was bad at drawing but I knew my shortcuts! Also being a part of the top 3 people in my uni who got to pitch their own idea for an animated series and talking to Rita Street on making cartoon bibles was also an incredible experience! I still have that bible when one day I feel confident in my writing enough to make my own series!

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
Right now I’m in New Zealand, originally from Bulgaria, I’ve always loved animation and I got my first break at (more…)

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is David Yarr and I am a 3D artist or say a Generalist.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
This is a funny question and I like it a lot. Well the craziest job I had was in my early twenties when I was a roof carpenter working up high. Everyday working on that height moving fast on a piece of wood trying to keep the body in balance. The chance of falling down was about 99.9 percent. I myself got close to fall three times but somehow managed to keep it in balance. I guess when you work in hard situations your brain develops some kind of intelligence to avoid accidents. I did that job for two years and still love to try it only once.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
In animation I would say none so far because I work in commercial animation and most of the time the deadlines are so tight you don’t even know to laugh about it or cry about it. But in oil painting I am proud that I painted a big version of Mona Lisa Cried on 9/11. It’s 36″x48″ oil on canvas. The idea behind it was when a plane hit the two twin towers in NY city, the tear of blood started to run down Mona Lisa’s chick in Louver Paris. I still have this big painting.

How did you become interested in animation?

Justin Putney

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Justin Putney. I’m a Creative Technology Manager at Pearson and co-founder of Ajar Productions. I started as an animator, and gradually learned more and more programming in Flash. Then I started automating tasks in Flash, and I now spend much of my time building tools for animators and designers.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
In college, I had part-time jobs painting houses and doing data entry at a hospital. After college, I started animating in my free time and was lucky enough to break into graphic design pretty quickly as a day job (which overlapped with animation fairly well).

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I really enjoyed building Facinator for Titmouse. Facinator allows Titmouse artists to rotate 2-D character heads as if they were 3-D and updates them on the stage. I also had a chance to build a production tool for The Venture Bros. (also with Titmouse), which was especially awesome because my wife and I have been fans of the show for years. It’s really neat to see what Titmouse is doing with those tools. I also love seeing what people have animated using SmartMouth, our automatic lipsyncing tool, as well as other extensions that I’ve developed.

How did you become interested in animation?
I drew constantly when I was younger. I finished college with a really broad Liberal Arts degree and didn’t really know what to do with myself. My wife suggested that (more…)
