What is your name and your current occupation?
Hi, my name is yating sun and now I am a student studying in Academy of art university.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I have published one children’s book, it is not very crazy, but for me, to publish my own book is a dream, and this is my book link http://www.flyingbooks.me/publisher/ilustrator/13  I think this is a very interesting story for children.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I have in a game company, create a very big MMORPG game, but it have not been released, so I can’t say much detail, their world view and concept are really amazing.

How did you become interested in animation?
I have seen so many animation by Disney ,PIXAR ,Dreamworks. Monster inc is one of the very impressed animation for me, since that I start to think if I can design some very interesting character for animation.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I come from China, and now still a student in visual development major.

What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
When I was in game company, I usually start thinking new ideas and do thumbnails search reference in the morning, then draw afternoon, of course I will do some doodle at lunch time.

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
To have the brain storm and put your idea on paper with pen. When you find you can create the character that in your brain is very excited.

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
The last part is to make more rendering on detail, it no need think that much, just long time working.


What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
To create beautiful shape on thumbnails and put right value, also beautiful color.


What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
Here in America the most difficult part for me is use English very fluently communicate with others, because I grew up in China over 20 years.


Describe a tough situation you had in life.
I think is now, I studying abroad in America, sometimes I only can sleep 3 or 4 hours a day, because the art homework, but because of this, I always have improve a lot after one semester.


Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
Well, I think is to taste different food all over the world, that is my best hobby, when I feel lose myself I will go to a new restaurant to make my stomach very full, then I will feel happiness.


Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
Try to insist the way that you think is right, don’t affect by others, always follow your heart what you like, and try your best, then you will finally be Successful.
