General Summary

The Head of Story, in concert with the Director, translates and interprets story lines into a visual medium via sketches, thumbnail drawings and finished storyboard drawings. Storyboards are the foundation of the production. The Head of Story is responsible for managing the Storyboard Department and the department’s Storyboard Artists.

Essential Job Functions

·       Leads and actively manages Storyboard Artists and storyboarding process.

·       Reviews, critiques, adjusts and approves work created in advance of Director review.

·       Serves as creative story lead.

·             Delivers storyboard assignments on time and on budget, which includes developing and maintaining schedules and standards for the department that are consistent with the needs of the Production.

·       Illustrates script pages and story ideas.

·       Develops character personality and dramatic/comedic action.

·       Works with Director (and Editor) to define staging, pacing, layout and camera action.

·       Incorporates Director’s notes.

·       Creates quick thumbnail sketches through to finished detailed storyboard panels.

·             Works with the Director, Producer and Editorial staff to review and adjust story schedules as needed.

·             Liaises with other key department heads such as Puppets, RP, Art and Camera to ensure healthy cross department communication and information sharing.

Qualifications

·       Experience as a Head of Story on a theatrically released Feature Animated Film.

·       Experience as a storyboard artist on Feature Films.

·       5+ years experience on Animated Feature Films.

·       Strong drawing ability for conveying character and action.

·             Strong understanding of basic story structure, character development, staging, layout, cutting and a cinematic / dynamic use of camera.

·       Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

·       Ability to visually analyze and translate scripts.

·       Ability to create quick sketches through to finished storyboard panels.

·             Ability to create inventive ideas and stories with a sense of entertainment and humor for multiple types of creative projects.

·       Experience with the Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet, a plus.

·       Experience with Photoshop, a plus.

Job Description

The Designer will work with the creative team to conceptualize, design and execute all on-air and off channel creative for Cartoon Network. This includes, but is not limited to, billboards, ads, posters, web banners, digital images, press mailers and sites, events, photo shoots, consumer products and premiums. Looking for candidates with strong design, illustration, craft and typography skills. Solid production skills (setting up files for press) are also very important. In addition, the Designer will support on-air creative, which includes motion graphics, set and props design and assisting on shoots. We are looking for candidates that share the Cartoon Network aesthetic and sensibility. Candidates should have a unique creative perspective and a good sense of humor.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Exhibit excellent typography and design skills.
  • Concept and provide thoughtful creative solutions of new layouts.
  • Support the design team by jumping in at any stage of the creative process.
  • Take ownership for all projects given to them and communicates effectively.
  • Create mechanicals and releases files to print as well as produces color matching proofs to deliver to printers.
  • Create electronic files as part of the proofing and approval process.
  • Produce comps and presentation materials that may require conventional mounting and comping techniques.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in and working knowledge of relevant technical concepts and related processes.
  • Take ownership for all projects given to them and communicates effectively.
  • Follow all department processes for archiving work and file maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of graphic design and print production experience
  • Avid user of Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects
  • Excellent understanding of prepress
  • Familiarity with Epson large format printers
  • Must be Mac proficient
  • Strong organizational, time and project management skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal communicator

Job Description

Duties: The Adult Swim Talent and Development department is looking for a motivated intern to learn about the development process and how to manage talent for a major network. Ideal candidate should have an active interest in agency/managerial world or press/marketing and will assist in providing coverage for scripts, researching talent and projects, reviewing storyboards, animatics and work prints of current shows in production. Additional duties include but are not limited to converting media, organizing, filing and other various general administrative and clerical tasks.

Candidate will also have the opportunity to sit in on pitch meetings as well as to pitch their own project at the end of their internship.

Qualifications: In order to facilitate the learning experience, the following qualifications are preferred: Should be able to commit to 12 weeks of the internship and be able to work 15-20 hours per week. Course credit is optional. Should be self-motivated, ability to work in a team environment and multi-task, have a good attitude, and be able to function well in an environment with short deadlines and quick turnaround projects. MAC savvy – need active use of Entourage and Excel and Mac Office – should be savvy around an office.

Internships are paid at minimum-wage and structured to last approximately 12 weeks. Course Credit is optional. Resume and Cover Letter are required. Students should have a strong academic record (3.0 strongly preferred). Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college prior to the start of the internship (i.e. students MUST be enrolled in school during the time of the internship). Students seeking college credit are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Strong skill set for staging and composing boards for animation
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in style of show.
  • Strong staging and composition skills.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn applicable design software and hardware.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Ability to multitask a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Relevant drawing experience necessary.
  • BA/BS preferred.

Libellum Studios is looking for a driven 2D animator to develop storyboards and their animated cutscenes for an indie game. It is definitely paid. The job may become full-time or part-time based on the animator’s availability.

Characters and environments have already been designed, however, this is a chance for the person applying to have creative input into a great story.
