Serap Pamir

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Serap Pamir. My current occupation is 3d character animator in an animation production company.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I had not had any crazier jobs before this one. But I made and sold necklaces and I worked as a English-Turkish translator few year ego and worked as software developer that I used love a lot. But In my mind I used to wish deeply to work in an animation company one day about 3d animation but did not decide exactly as a software developer or as a 3d animator. But now I love very much working as an 3d character animator in an animation company.:-)!!!

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
One of my software I developed and wrote totally my self. There was a little girl and a boy ice skating when the user pushed the 23 different figure buttons on the screen. The girl and the boy fluently do the necessary figures after completing the current one. But it was 2 dimensional pictured. I did all the pictures by myself too. But I do not think this is a project that to deserve to be proud of…But this is also for pc not for internet so I have no link of it. Two ice skating 3d animations I have done recently.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I am from Ankara, Turkey. I started working on 3d animation and modelling to make

my software programs look nicer. Then I loved animating a lot. and Left the software developing.

What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
I got up 6.30. I make some of house works. I have breakfast and prepare for the working day. I also spend some time with my cat play with him in the morning. I love him a lot. Then I go out and partially walk partially use bossed to my work. When I get to work I work there non-stop from 9 to 18. But I love every seconds of my work . I work passionately and meticulously. In every second of my animation work I try to improve my animation skills every day. I also love my colleagues in my room atn my work very much. We have a peaceful room. Then I go out for home. Then at home I do some little house work again and play with my cat. then go to sleep early like 9.30 pm. then the day finish.

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
I love most when we work on 3d animations for children not realistic but more cartoony and with wonderful colors.

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
There is no any part of my work that I like least. I love all part of it really! But I can say that when jealousy occurs within our colleagues and they try to hurt me purposely this is the worse part. But I’am trying to learn how to handle with it peacefully.
What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?

How has technology changed in the last few years in your field and how has that impacted you in your job?
I work with 3dsMax currently. I used to work with 3dsMax in the past too. I also worked with Maya and I love Maya the most as comparison to Max. Max has improved much as time passes with respect to material, render and light quality. Preset animation has become more realistic like CAT preset walks and runs and some other figures. Srowd animation and paint tool. But as an easying the animation Max still is not sufficient. I mean for example you cant still see how much you had turned the head after you turned it locally with respect to body. ON the other hand in Maya you can always see the amount of angel you have turned locally through the panels.

What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
Competition as an un-gentleman. Trying to hurt or make some one sad in order to prevent him or her from doing his or her work.

If you could change the way the business works and is run how would you do it?
Actually on of the best part that I love in my current work is the system preventing mean competition and distinguishing between mean competition and gentleman competition. We have great bosses. That why I love working in my company most!!!! If one day I become a director or coordinator (I do not think so at all but…) I would use the same or similar system as they use.

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
I am sorry I could not understand this question due to my poor English :-) But I can answer your question as I could understand : I am perfectionist but also a very humanistic and calm person who is in peace with herself.

Describe a tough situation you had in life.
the cruel, insulting and repressive behaviour I experienced in my previous job by my colleagues.

Any side projects you’re working on that you’d like to share details of?
A much much better ice skating animation of 4 minutes and at least 2 minutes and a bale animation. And also a project I am designing about a girl and her cats.

Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
I love making beadworks. I some times can guess the earthquakes by observing earth ground impulses and their directions and their frequency.
Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
