What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
This world is crazy enough.. I did nothing crazy.. I’m crazy enough 🙂
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I made a concept for McD cafÃ© building. The building was in the shape ofÂ up-side-down french fries box with some fries coming out of the box, and theÂ client like it.Â Â Now I am doing animation series for local TV station. The project involvesÂ many creative workers & studios. I’m the producer, a 2nd director and also anÂ office boy 🙂 The story is about kids adventure, that I choose from myÂ friend’s comic.
How did you become interested in animation?
I used to play “Prince of Persia” in DOS computer when I was a kid. StartingÂ Â from there, I was curious to make my own game or animation.. So IÂ experimented, from creating moving pictures frame by frame on the corner ofÂ pages on my study book,.it was cool enough but that’s not enough for me..so IÂ make an animation in DOS computer, and moving or animated it by pres theÂ cursor right point manually 🙂 and in university I had done many media forÂ visual communication design, start from printing,interactive,videoÂ andÂ animation project. And my biggest interest are in animation.
Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Jakarta, Indonesia. I started in animation business by working in aÂ team doing small animation projects such as for corporate video profile, TVC,Â corporate products, TV promo and in my free time, I like to make someÂ stopmotion projects with clay or others material that can be used forÂ animation. I think this is my passion and I have to make it happen..and nowÂ I’m producing a TV program for kids..
What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
Doing some meeting, briefing, also directing and production supervising fromÂ animation to audio post, and deliver to clients.
What part of your job do you like best? Why?
I like to find solutions to production problems, by exploring many animationÂ techniques. It’s fun…
What part of your job do you like least? Why?
I don’t like to work with tight deadline, its make result doesn’t optimal.
What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
Things are complicated already, I try to make them as simple as possible.
What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
I use claymation or others stopmotion technique..I use camera and FCP forÂ editing..
In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
Not yet.. I wish 🙂
Describe a tough situation you had in life.
Hmm.. I always want to make entertainment for kids, because they are ourÂ responsibility and we have to care for their future.
Any side projects or you’re working on or hobbies you’d like to share detailsÂ of?
Claymation, and I’m still exploring the technique more and more.. We can’tÂ Â stop learning..
Any unusual talents or hobbiesÂ likeÂ tying a cherry stem with yourÂ tongueÂ orÂ metallurgy?
My hobbies are swimming and climbing, also like gardening.. In my free time IÂ Â like playing with my kids
Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artistÂ trying to break into the business?
Just do what you like, dislike, love, and hate.. Collaborate them in yourÂ head.. When you finally find something you’re crazy about and you can’tÂ remember to eat, probably you’ve nailed your passion! Good luck in this crazyÂ world..
