Kris W. Patrick

What is your name and your current occupation?
Kris W. Patrick, I’m a 3D animator/illustrator/editor at a advertising agency in Dallas

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a security guard for awhile. I had beer poured on me and threatened with a gun.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’m not proud of anything I do. I MUST DO BETTER!

How did you become interested in animation?
According to my parents I watched Disney movies repetitively, up to 4 times in a row. That might have been when.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Oklahoma, I bought my way into the industry by going to college meeting the right people, pretty lame.

What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
I usually work all day at my regular job. Then work on bedfellows all evening. I like to stay pretty busy.

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
I like the people I work with, at my day job and on my team. I have always felt its not what you do, its who you work with, and im very thankful to have great people around me

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
People/clients with poor communication usually stresses me out the most, im sure you have to deal with that in most industries. When someone says, “make it more sexy” or “it needs to be better” I want to punch them in the face.
What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
A PC, a recording booth, and 3 monitors. Neeerrrrrd!

What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
Dealing with some of the ego in this industry frustrates me sometimes.

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
I shook hands with Glen Keen. That was a huge honor for me, the man is brilliant and extremely humble.

Describe a tough situation you had in life.
Just getting into the industry was hard for me, I’m not really a people person, and you really have to put yourself out there to be noticed.

Any side projects you’re working on that you’d like to share details of?
Seriously?…. Come on….

Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
I can see into the future.

Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
Expect the worst, work extremely hard, don’t sleep, eat while you do stuff, do your own thing, don’t trust anyone, especially any politicians. Thug Life.
