What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is David Gomes. I’m the CEO of SEMOG Entertainment and creator of “Godians” webseries.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I worked as a military contractor on the US Embassy of Iraq in Bagdad during the war.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I had the pleasure to be part of the BET awards and work on a Diesel Jeans commercial. 

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Virginia, however, I claim California as my home, too. Basically, I was always a fan of Kung Fu and some anime. So I created a series of stories and brought to life via animation. 

What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
I start my day with writing episodes for “Godians” then, work on some motion graphics, and finally search the web to commission talented artist to work on the series. 

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
Working on my motion graphics using AE and Photoshop. Working with these programs allows me to indulge into my own world while, creating something that my fans would enjoy.

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
Writing, writing, writing. Oh did I mention writing. I have a strong passion to create with visual aid. But when I write, I seem to be impatient with coming up with a compelling story.  

What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis, how has technology changed in the last few years in your field and how has that impacted you in your job?
Recently, I’ve dabbled with Flash animation and Maya. One innovative feature that both programs offer is motion-capture capabilities. This technology has revolutionized the workflow of animation. In a few months, I plan to invest in a motion-capture system to animate my webseries.

What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
Acquiring dedicated and talented artist to work with.  

If you could change the way the business works and is run how would you do it?
I would create more animated television shows, which will create more jobs. Pay higher wages for animators.

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
I met great animators and artist at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, and also witness great artist in Dubai and Iraq.

Describe a tough situation you had in life.
Just dealing with life is the toughest situation.

Any side projects you’re working on that you’d like to share details of?
I’m working on writing and producing “Godians” graphic novel.

Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
Sorry, I have no unusual talents. All of them are in my mind.

Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
I’m not going to give a cliché’ answer like, work hard and don’t give up. Instead, I would say to educate yourself, craft your skills, and surround yourself with individuals that you could learn from. Don’t be the smartest one in your circle.
