David Pritchard

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
potato picker.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Iron Giant,Roger Rabbit,300,Benjamin Button ,and recent project i cant mention yet .
How did you become interested in animation?
Tony hart art show on the bbc in England also Walt Disney films . Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
Sutton Coldfield ,England ,one of my first jobs was as an FX inbetweener on Roger Rabbit in London for Walt Disney studios  .
What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
My day is usually commute get notes animate, re-tweek and render, director changes mind, go home will change in morning ,commute, chill with family and friends.

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
bringing shots and characters or whatever to life .

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
Living in Los angeles I usually spend 3 hours a day stuck in traffic .

What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
Mainly Maya and desktop or laptop computers though seeing the rise of ipads

What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
The long hours in crunch time and missing family during those times .

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
Yes I have been lucky I would say highlights are working with Brad Bird and others on the Iron Giant (many many greats on that project ) and working with Richard Purdum ( the nicest and most talented animator on the planet )  for 5 years .

Describe a tough situation you had in life.
Leaving Richard Purdums studios.

Any side projects or you’re working on that you’d like to share details of?
My cousin Autun Purser  sci fi travel posters.

Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
I like gardening and cooking a lot .. not really unusual i guess .

Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
Not sure what to advise but Iwould say doodle always .
