Gabriele Ranfagni, I’m 3d character animator in Axis Animation

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Illustrator and graphic for some agency

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’ve worked in almost 40 projects, so everyone of this project have gave me something.My last work a trailer for a game on PSP that’s a  really good project.

How did you become interested in animation?
I’m looking for a illustration studio and I’ve mistake studio…I’ve begin to do it animation in the 95 in one of the first italian studio “Studio4” in Florence….now animation in Italy is  almost  dead
Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Italy
What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
I’m leaving very early (6:30)and after breakfast I drawing from Virtual Pose some life’s sketch, at less 45 minutes, to have always a contact with drawing and to improve the strongest of my poses… I working from 10:00 until 19:00 in general, but some nights to spend with my works are usual in animation….
What part of your job do you like best? Why?
I love the research of the acting, planning the scene, do it the references and the blocking of the scene….where I can concentrates my creativity  and where a animator can really be free to express himself!
What part of your job do you like least? Why?
Nothing 🙂 I love all..
What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
In the first years follows the model in traditional animation…after I’ve make of the animation assistance one of my strongest point.Abitually when I’m less strong in one thing I try to focus on them and working to improve it
What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
Digital animation, 2d and 3d.I’ve a tablet pc where I planning my 3d animation before to starting blocking.
In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
I’ve meet a lot of big masters…Eric Goldberg, Gary Goldman, Don Bluth, Bruno Bozzetto, Kristoff Serrand..Everyone really great also as person….
Describe a tough situation you had in life.
I’ve working as storyboarder for 10 years, because there’s not working in animation here in Italy…I feel really “sleepy” and I’ve choice to rest in my country….the death of my father, the person I’ve believe more in me and my work, i’ve give me again the strong to begin one more time animation, and travel in the world looking for my job..I’m animator…This is my way…
Any side projects or you’re working on or hobbies you’d like to share details of?
I’ve a great passion for bikes.I had a lot of great supersporting bikes..so my hobby are to make mechanical work on my little babies….Another hobby are weight lift..
Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
Ahahah nothing of special..I’ve drawing sometime with toasted nuts….if this can be considereed as unusual talents 🙂
Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
Animate everyday, try everyday to make better of the past day….
