What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Laura Murray and I am currently looking for work.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I havent had much jobs in the past, most of my time would of been in college, I finished college in May 2012.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I have worked on a colaborative student short film in college called 45 degrees.  I also worked on an individual film called Trapped.  It is a autobiographical 2d animated film.  I was also involved as a scene prep artist in Magpie 6 Media working on the Travels of Young Marco Polo.
Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I live in Ireland.  I unfortunately dont have much work experience regarding the animation business, but regarding the subject of animation.  I was very interested in studying it when I was in school and progressed into Ballyfermot College in 2007.
What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?

Again, I dont have much work experience in the animation industry but when I worked in Magpie Media, my day would start from 10am and end at 6.  It would mostly consist of working on assets and using Anime Studio Pro and scaling characters, props and backgrounds and placing them into the scene and making sure they are related to the size reference sheets.  After completing shots that were given to me, i would then gather the files and send them to the lead scene prep artist.
What part of your job do you like best? Why?
Difficult to say since I was only there for a short period of time.
What part of your job do you like least? Why?
Again, difficult to say since I was only there for a short period of time.
What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis, how has technology changed in the last few years in your field and how has that impacted you in your job?
At home, I would usually use Photoshop for sketching, painting etc.  If i was to edit my showreel, I would use Premier Pro to render avis or movs.  Now and again I would use Flash to sketch out animation.  I find that the technology is getting better and at the moment I am learning to adapt to it.  In the past I have mostly drawn  and painted traditionally.
What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
I havent got an answer for that.

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
no.

Describe a tough situation you had in life.
Probably in college, trying to survive with no grant, lucky enough I live at home and my boyfriend supported me through the two years of the degree.
Any side projects you’re working on that you’d like to share details of?
no, not at the moment.
Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
No, I do like running, attending drum lessons and of course art.
Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
I would say to them is to try and find that one thing that they like doing most and stick to it.  So if they are good at animating, stick to it and progress on that.
