What is your name and your current occupation?
Ron Myrick…animation director

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Driving instructor, video game locator, bus boy.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Heavy Metal, The Adams Family. The Incredible Hulk, Sigfried and Roy, Ozzy and Drix.

How did you become interested in animation?
It has been a dream since my child hood. I learned the art / craft of animation on the job.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
Born in Atlanta Ga.,I grew up in L.A. I was introduced to animation the day I graduated from college. I attended the Calif. Coll. of Arts and Crafts, getting a BFA. in drawing. I was brought into a training program at Filmation as an inbeteweener.

What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
My day is varied between checking and revising story boards, checking models, cutting animatics, and visualizing the script in all phases.

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
Working with the artist. Giving them notes and direction.

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
Getting stupid notes from clients that have no idea what we do and what it takes to make it happen.

What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
The roller coaster ride of employment and unemployment.

What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
Editing on Final Cut Pro.

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
Working with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera…Phil Roman, and a host of amazing animators

Describe a tough situation you had in life. Any side projects you’re working on you’d like to share details of?
The toughest situation ever was producing Loonatics Unleashed…I am working on some side projects but will decline to discuss them for now.

Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
The best advice I can give anyone is to persevere and never give up on your dream.
